![]() ![]() You can follow the development of the render here: Twitch/provod. Other mods can be added if mod source codes are available. You may use and re-distribute these textures for any non-commercial purpose, provided you include credit to the original authors and the Nightwatch team. This package allows you to play Half-life 1 and its mods such as Blue Shift, Opposing Force and some other mods with ray tracing. (So, if your sky name is skyday0101, you would make it skyday0101hdr). It is possible that other former team members may have newer versions - if this is the case, please contact me and I'll update accordingly. Note: If you are mapping for Half-Life 2: Episode Two, you need to add hdr to the end of most sky namesif it is not already thereso it does not cause the sky texture to stretch. These files are the most recent I have, dating to November 2004 (a few months after my departure - there are some textures in here I hadn't even seen before). So, for anyone out there who might still be fighting the good fight with old Half-Life 1 content, or for anyone who wants to see what we were working with, please enjoy this: I've been meaning to partner this release with a postmortem of sorts on the mod's successes and failures as well as as thorough a "where are they now?" list I can manage, but even after all this time I have a lot to say and this has been held back long enough. This was a single player mod I started way back in 2002, a few months before I would strike my largest amateur success with Natural Selection's ns_eclipse. Aside the Main mods, the HD textures were taken from fps banana, as I dont really enjoy 'strange assets non-related to HL or non-canon/too away from the original concept art' So some things such the main characters, weapons, props and Combines (soldiers and metro police) required this to feel in place with the cinematic mod textures. A few weeks back, I received an unexpected e-mail from a fan of an old Half-Life mod by the name of Nightwatch. Nightbreed: The Interactive Movie (Amiga) - Guest. The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES).It's basically a prettier Half-Life with some new dialogue, and reworked levels is what I'm saying, rather than some bullshit reimagining, featuring QTEs where you make Gordon Freeman do backflips off missiles, in third person, while making angsty one-liners. It's ridiculously well made and polished for a fan project, and feels like an alternate version of the game, rather than some barely recognisable reinterpretation of it. I used it in my playthrough a few weeks ago, its pretty good, but dont expect it to look like HL2 or anything. I've made no secret of the fact I'm totally biased here, but as a big Half-Life fan I have to say that I'm a big fan of this Half-Life remake so far. It adds high res textures, projected shadows, and some fancier shallow water. Though what I actually did is keep playing anyway, without the screenshots, because it's still Half-Life and I have to dammit. I feel like sticking around and taking him down again, but I've already got a stupid number of screenshots, so I should really turn this off now. They've recreated his movement and AI pretty much as it was as far as I can tell, as he still taps around on each floor hunting for prey, immediately darting to attack anything he hears. He's doing pretty well for himself actually. There's new music for when you put on the suit as well, but that couldn't really be helped seeing as they weren't allowed to use anything from the original soundtrack. It's a nice way of showing that this thing's actually powered armour, not some bulky hazmat suit that'll slow you down. One change I did like though is that Gordon's movement speed increased when I put the suit on. To be honest though I didn't notice a difference until I put them side by side, so I'll give them a pass on this. People just can't help tweaking the look of the HEV suit. bigger.Īlright, I'm finally free to go wandering around the offices, overhearing the new conversations while trying to find where they've put my HEV suit now. And it looks 'right' as well, they've matched the style of the original game so it doesn't look out of place. It doesn't even have this layout.īut fuck it, right now I don't even care. is fine, but I know what the Black Mesa Research Facility reception lobby looks like from playing Half-Life, and it doesn't look like this. Sharpening up the details, adding more realistic textures etc. To be honest I'm not generally a fan of people reimagining things. ![]()
